Personality
Asp is a nasty little bugger. If you ask the barn staff just which horse they like the least, his name will come up the majority of the time. Although he descends from lines of kind-hearted horses, Asp is determined to be the black sheep. He has a wild look to him, with a wideset, cool-eyed gaze that often sees through the human. To him, his caretakers are just a means to an end. He wants his food and he wants to work and that's that. Despite his sullen and anti-social tendencies, Asp is one of the nicest looking horses on the property. He moves with a terrific swagger and is an eye catcher in the barn. He was set to be sold as a yearling, but upon seeing the horse in the chaotic sale environment and realizing that nothing inherently bothered him, Ripley decided it was a no go. Asp could have cared less as long as he got his grain in a timely fashion.
Asperitas, named for a type of cloud cover, is quite the looker on the track. His savagely shaped head and perfectly formed body draw a lot of interest to him and when the crowd gets a load of how he moves, they fall for him head over heels. He runs with a determined nature, always grumpy with his ears pinned back to listen for his opponents. Thanks to his high cruising speed, Asp is rarely behind the field as he tends to break quickly and settles off the more willful leaders. He has a take no prisoners style and doesn't need much from his rider--which was too be expected based on his at-home attitude--to get him going. Turning for home, Asp will take command, if he hasn't already, and spurt away on reserves of energy brought to him by his dam lines. Only for those quick bursts will Asp's ears go up before they slap back to his neck just in time for the finish line photo. |
