Personality
Faith In War may appear as plain Jane as it gets with only a flicker of white hair between her eyes, but she is as exciting a racehorse as they come. A pure professional in the barn and on the track, the bay filly never puts a hoof out of line. She's as sweet as they come with her staff and loves to be groomed. If her staff is in reach while doing so, she'll twist around to give them nuzzles in response. She has the softest liquid brown eyes and she really warms the soul when you're around her. Fairly relaxed around the barn, Nami doesn't get up in arms when horses are moved about or when the grain comes. She'll nicker to the staff, but she isn't out to tear down the walls, like that would do any good anyway? Nami gets along well with her pasture-mates, even the more aggressive horses. While not a dominating personality, Faith In War isn't a pushover by any means. She'll give it right back as good as the other horse gave, sometimes more so just to drive home the point that she isn't one for the beating.
On the track, Nami's switch doesn't flip in quite the same way as other members of her crop. She's pretty flatfooted on the track, keeping an even keel personality. As such, she doesn't particularly draw the eye of the casual bettors. The railbirds know her from her strong morning gallops and effortless workouts. Ripley tends to keep the filly on the turf in the morning, although Nami is more than capable of hitting both surfaces. Her turf capabilities make it easier for the staff to keep her on the safer surface and allow them to keep her in as good a shape as possible for a long career. When she's in a race, Faith In War will load kindly and stand in the stall stock still, so much so that it isn't a surprise that she isn't the best gate horse. She'll break evenly and race along with the pack, so much like her mother that it's like looking at a twin. Her long body stretches over the ground, keeping easy pace no matter how fast they're going up front. There is one big difference between mother and daughter: the closing kick. While Coveted Faith had a grinding ability, Faith In War packs an impressive closing punch. With a whoosh, Nami will launch after the leaders when given the signal from her rider. Her long strides come in handy as she gobbles up the ground down the center of the track, stealing the limelight (and the victory) from those precocious front runners. |
