personality
If there is any filly with more of an attitude, Ripley and the rest of Witch Creek's staff hope never to meet her. Dazzling Dame could be diagnosed with severe bi-polar disorder. That's no joke either. The minute the 15.3 hand filly stepped off of the trailer, she went from being an absolute angel to an absolute nutcase. It took four people and two lead ropes to get the filly under control. She made it known that she would always be fighting for control no matter the person or the place. Dame flashes those teeth and hooves of hers any time she pleases. She picks and chooses making her dangerous, sort of like Cross, only ten times worse. Dame doesn't care if you're male or female, horse or human. If she likes you one day, don't expect it to carry over to the next. She is not the friendliest filly either, making her the complete opposite of Stride of Perfection Stable's twin, Infinite Warcry. She'll hide in the back of the stall, ears angrily pinned and won't come out without the jaws of life. She seems almost eel-like in her attitude. She is a daring horse and very frustrating. She does as she pleases regardless of what the humans want. She is a full-blown, true-blue race horse. And while she has been semi-successful in younger races as a two year old, her bad attitude is the reason why she hasn't completely succeeded. It isn't because she can't run, it's because she scares the people who work with her. Or well most of them. Justin Santiago isn't afraid of the Jessie James filly. He actually uses his free time to study her in her stall, galloping over the track, in the pasture when she's allowed to roam alone. He finds her interesting, if that's what he wants to call it. Ripley has given free rein to Justin in her conditioning. She'll ride her in the races until Justin gets his jockey license at nineteen in October. But Dazzling Dame needs conditioning, not training. She knows how to run, but if the only person she barely tolerates is the young boy, then he can work on the Jessie James filly. He has seen the filly's good side a few times. She'll nicker at him when he cleans her stall and stand for him in the cross-ties. She likes her ears rubbed when no one else is around. These few minor things cause Justin to believe there is more than meets the eye for the infamous filly.
The filly is dangerously competitive. In the post parade, rather than show off, Dazzling Dame will stalk the other horses, searching for her prey. She analyzes and screams her superiority. She gives chills to the people on the track. She breaks fast from the gate, after the gate workers load her in, which can be a process. Dame has to wear a closed hood when she enters the stall, not particularly liking the contraption. She'll stand quickly as long as the hood remains on her head. The gates will fling open and the hood will fling up and it's only Dame on the track. She flies like a winged Pegasus over the turf. She stretches right out, reaching those legs behind her small stature and pushing off powerfully on that hind end. Dame has a beautiful rhythm when she gets settled into stride. Nearly effortless. She tracks patiently off the leaders, ears flat to her head to listen to what's behind her. She is typically found and directed to the outside due to the fact that she doesn't corner well. She drifts to the outside like a much larger horse would and then slingshots forward in the stretch and past the tiring leaders. Dame doesn't get tired. She runs blisteringly fast in order to get the job done and then shuts down just past the wire. The filly has incredible stamina and incredible talent. She hates to lose and will take it out on her handlers or the other horses. She has too much heart and too much ego to tolerate so much losing. Dame is a true fireball and her talent is just waiting to explode.
