personality
Her name speaks for the entire horse. Prima Donna is indeed a prima donna. She is indeed the first lady in everything. She has a queenly attitude, a vicious bite and a bossy personality. The boys can barely handle her. She's rough and tough and not afraid to assert herself in any matter, race or otherwise. Her parents were both moody, anxious horses at certain times, both bi-polar, depending on what day it was and whether they were interested in what they were supposed to be doing. She doesn't go for the cute, cuddly nature her pops was known to go for. And she doesn't go for the flashy parade animal nature that Royal Assault possessed so fluently. She is her own animal and she is quite a tom-boy. Prima Donna does not take no for an answer. She is a dog-fighter, a pusher, a punk that is out to get you. She hurls her big body about like a wrecking ball. In the paddock before the race, this girl needs two people hanging on to her because she isn't afraid to just send one person flying. She isn't a wild horse. She just doesn't feel the need for affection or being controlled by a 100 pound human. She can be quite difficult to deal with, but surprisingly she is pretty good under saddle. Pretty good meaning not bucking, bolting or attempting to kill her rider. She'll listen to hand signals and conversation, flicking her ears as if understanding the gist of what her rider, usually Justin, is saying. She has a bad-girl nature to her and is extremely willful. She'll go into the gate quietly and respectfully, eyeing the gate worker as if he's for lunch. It has been said that if the filly were any other animal, Prima would be a man-eating lioness. She loves to romp in the mud in her home paddocks, and prance about in the gushy turf and will purposefully engage a leader late in the race in order to battle. She won't settle for less than first and becomes quite temperamental and dangerous when she does lose. She has too much talent to lose and she is aware of it. She is the first lady, the prima ballerina. She doesn't care to be the side-show act. She wants the spotlight and wants it because of her top-notch capabilities.
She won't prance in the parade and will actually move at a flat walk. Justin and any other rider cannot get the filly to move faster than the flat walk before the start of the race. She just refuses and actually puts on quite the stubborn mule act. Because of this, bettors typically won't look at her after she makes her appearance in the paddock. They know she has talent, but she disguises it by being the mule and stunning casual bettors when she roars by the field in the stretch. Prima Donna is a determined sole, determined to make herself spectacular on her own terms. In the race, Prima will usually settle in the fourth position, almost a mid-packer rather than a stalker. She settles into a stupendously long stride and practically gallops about effortlessly. She will keep her ears pinned no matter where she is in the race and is not above intimidation. She is a large filly and she knows it. She'll keep a smaller horse pinned on the rail or will float them wide on the turns. At the head of the stretch, Prima will burst forward a stunning kick to roll right on by the top four leaders. She doesn't go for the gradual position change. When she wants the lead, she gets it. Whoever the last horse left standing is might be the most unlucky because Prima Donna loves to fight. She will purposely slow down to battle that runner and then suddenly decide she wants nothing to do with them. If engaged by another oncoming runner, Prima will purposefully rebreak in order to stay with the fast enemy. Sometimes she'll take mercy and just bolt right by them, but usually she's quite a minx.
