Personality
High spirits simply don't have any limits in the world of Royal Flush. Descended from two of the biggest hot heads, the gray colt was bound to be a fiend of the highest order. Royal Flush puts his elegant and regally streamlined body to the test in everything he does, pushing the athletic boundaries as much as he can. Bucking up-hill? Check. Pirouetting in the pasture to avoid a grab by a cohort in a fierce battle of halter tag? Yup. Falling on his face while playing the fool? You catch the drift. This colt doesn't seem to take life too seriously and if his head wasn't attached to his shoulders, he'd likely lose that too. His connections have to pay utmost attention to the pretty colt as he doesn't typically take care of himself in the way most horses would. He is the epitome of hot house flower and can be a bit pathetic if he even so much as nicks his legs while working out. He will legitimately go three-legged lame over a cut the size of a thumbnail just because it "hurts". Battle Brook's had tougher horses to say the least, but he sure is purdy out there on a foggy morning.
For all his psychosis, Royal Flush is a terrific workhorse. His personality translates well to the track as nothing pleases a sugar-high more than zooming laps on an open dirt highway. Tireless due to his dam line on his sire's side, Royal Flush can really extend his cruising speed quite a ways for a zippy sprinter. He actually cannot go shorter than six furlongs as he's a bit silly coming out of the gate from time to time and needs that extra furlong to really get himself together. Once he settles, you'll often find him between the mid-pack horses and the dead-last closers. He has a gorgeous, fluid stride and runs with his ears pricked. His jockeys often remark that he's like riding a cocked gun as you just have to give him his head heading into the far turn. Like a bullet after a pulled trigger, Royal Flush rushes the field, ears pinned to his neck as the competitive fires blossom. Handy despite his size, Royal Flush really likes to cut up the rail or through traffic and will always avoid the far outside. Once the gray colt makes the lead, he likes to test his jock's wherewithal as he's certainly not going to stop pouring it on down the lane just to protect himself for the next race. |
