Personality
Matrix is perhaps the sharpest horse in the Year Twenty crop, which could have been a bad thing if she had a more malevolent personality. Luckily, the pretty daughter of Spotlight Pride and Prima Donna comes to work every day happy as a clam and more than willing to please. As a growing weanling and yearling, Dominatrix could get a little pushy-shovey with her shoulders if she was one of the last ones to be let out into the pasture, but she was never mean about it. Her snarky ears at grain time were more a symbol of her impatience than a threat of a forthcoming chomp on her human handlers. Ripley will self-admit to claiming this filly as one of her favorites. There's just something extra special in Matrix's eyes, some promise of fire and guts that drew the trainer's attention even at such a young age. Matrix learned her kid lessons well and while the boys were punished for kicking out and being jerks, she knew that the fastest way to be turned loose was to just do what the humans asked the first time. As such, the brainiac filly also became the teacher's pet and received all of the appropriate cuddles and praise to coincide with said title.
On the track, Dominatrix is a workaholic type and very much into her job. Not one to be annoyed if asked to work, the bay filly is an eager beaver who leaps right into everything on a drop of a hat. Her morning gallops are always very impressive and her workouts even more so. She has a blistering pizzazz to her and is very much the eye catcher with her smooth way of going. In the afternoon, Matrix will prance and dance her way through the paddock, only standing still if faced backward in the saddling stall. She has the unique capability of prancing without really going anywhere and very much looks like every child's fanciful merry-go-round pony. Dominatrix is a good gate-horse, but she has a tendency to drop back into the crowd, taking position behind a horse moving just a little faster than herself. Her covered up style seems to "charge" her explosive late run, very much like the European horses. Matrix could get herself into trouble, but she'd likely be in more trouble if given a wide area to run early on, only because when this filly sees open space, she rolls and there's very little you can do to stop her. It's best to keep her contained for as long as possible. Her rider need never doubt her capabilities because her point-and-shoot for the gap style may be a tad dramatic, but it is effective as all get out. |
