"I always liked this pairing and can't believe that I waited so long to try it. Both her parents were exceptional athletes and fine specimens and she's no different. Hyper thanks to the Crooked Fire genes, but she's got common sense and a burning drive to exceed expectations."
--from Ripley's personal journal
If anyone ever shows up to the barn in a bad mood, Ripley sends them Flash's way. Like her distant relative, Call Me Crooked, Flash is a horse that inspires the need for good humor and patience. She loves peppermints and carrots, especially loves strokes on the neck and--oddly enough--her udders. The filly will purposely put her butt in anyone's face just to get her udders rubbed. She'll spread her legs for the best access, wiggle her lips over the bars of a stall or rope or hand--whatever is closest. She's unexpectedly gentle and very smart for a young one and very quiet. Her good nature is something Ripley welcomed in the face of another Touch Up descendant, Fallen Angel. Flash was easy to train in that she was very willing and eager to learn. She just needs to be shown how to do something once and she'll get whatever is being asked of her--granted if there is positive reinforcement. Punishment and negative reinforcement bring out her dam line's stubborn side and she can be a total minx if not immediately corrected.
On the track, Flash Fire is the energizer bunny. She loves to work, loves the atmosphere and gets a kick out of watching the other horses go through their own lessons. She has a bouncy trot and a quick strided canter, but she seems to find her best footing at a gallop. She breaks from the gate like a jack rabbit and will usually hit the ground running. She doesn't need to prove herself as the fastest horse around the block which comes in handy at the classic distances of nine and ten furlongs. However, she is fleet footed and she does love to win. Her winning move tends to come on the far turn, where she'll sweep up and engage the leaders in a flurry of excitement. She is the kind of filly that runs just for the sake of running and winning.
