Personality
Dana is quite temperamental, and won't hesitate to lash out if she's annoyed enough. She doesn't like older humans, especially men, and is a handful to deal with when she's in an uncooperative mood. On the rare occasion that she is feeling obliging she is still a handful and will only work her best with a female jokey that she trusts up in the saddle. Though she's still quite wild, her spirit is admired throughout the stable, and her passion for racing is unmistakable. If allowed to, she would gallop all day and night around her paddock, just running just to run. We have yet to truly test the limits of Dana because she just always seems to want to go.
This active and wild mentality has literally translated into her physical appearance. With her active lifestyle, Dana always totes a bulkier frame and has been mistaken more than once for one of the colts. If you likes horses with personality, Dana's got it in spades. If you like spirited horses, Dana's your gal. Or if you like a filly that wouldn't hesitate to trample you "for the fun of it", then she's the one for you. With this rough and tumble kind of girl and she has no qualms instigating and throwing her weight around the other horses and she never ever backs down from a challenge. If you work with Dana you're most likely going to be stepped on or bitten at some point, but that's just the nature of the beast and to see this filly on the track and her passion for running outweighs any bumps, bruises or scrapes that the staff might endure.
For all of her passion and spirit, it is impossible to miss Dana on race day. She lets the competition know she's arrived and then once satisfied with her arrival she's immediately stalking the competition. Often Dana has been compared to a mountain lion that stalks it's prey and that is exactly what she does on the track. This filly has speed. Once the gates open, she's out of there and hot on the leader's tails. Dana is extremely aggressive when running, mostly towards her own jockey. If her rider so much as touches the reins, she'll duck her head and throw a fit that even the worst tempered horse would deem impressive. She's stubborn to the core, and will fight her handler to the point where her mouth bleeds from the bit. No amount of softening has done any good for her; it's actually made her more bull-headed than before. So, our strategy for her is simple; let her do her own thing and just focus on staying on her back.
