Personality
"This one... She came out of the womb born to run. If I'm honest with myself, I didn't quite expect such brilliance from a daughter of Nirvana and Flashpoint--both workmanlike horses, but it's there. It's almost material that is how raw her talent is."
-from Ripley's personal journal.
She was expected to be the hard-working, blue collar runner, she's not. She was also supposed to be a kindhearted individual with an interest in treats, humans and all things attention. That also isn't what Army is about. Army is about the life of a loner. She likes what she likes and what she likes is to be left alone unless it involves a saddle, bridle and an expansive dirt track. She was not an easy horse to break to saddle. She loathed the bit, firmly rejected the feel of a rider on her back, but after several weeks of Mal's persistence, she simply gave up. Ever since, Armistice has never looked back to the days of just lazing around the pastures, ignoring the annoyances of her Y16 crop. If someone even drops the word "ride" around her, Army is at the door rearing to go.
Army's parents were grinding types, but Army is brilliant. She doesn't just show up at the very end. Nope, Army breaks like a rocket from the gate and demonstrates the precocity that her dam was known for in her early days. Her stride is huge and extremely deceptive. She takes one for every other horse's two and it's odd because she's an average sized horse. She cruises right alongside her foes until the final turn when she'll pull herself to the front with a dazzling blitz of late speed. She runs effectively from sprints to long distances and is an extraordinarily talented runner. Malcolm always said she was a good one, but no one believed him until she clocked five furlongs in :58 flat and came back not even blowing.
