Personality
Hal may be small, but he has the heart of a lion. There is something charming about the small colt with the fierce brown eyes and boxy stature. He has a way of connecting with his audience and being remembered. Whether its in the morning soaking in some attention from passersby or in the afternoon with the warrior light glinting in his eyes, Halcyon grew a fan club quite rapidly. A carbon copy of his award winning dam, Hal is as hickory as he is fast. While some of the other horses in his crop contracted a cold, Hal remained as healthy as ever, looking for work while everyone else wanted a good nap. He is the type that rebounds from giant efforts as if they were just a walk in the park, which is a miracle considering the colt's running style.
The daring colt tends to leave his connections holding their hearts when he breaks from the gate. Not one to be immediately showy with his brilliant speed, Hal lingers while his compadres fly up the track in a hurry. He'll settle ten lengths off the leader in a small field and as much as fifteen in a large one. Such massive gaps from front to back spell doom at shorter races, hence why Hal will never be good at five furlong races. At the halfway point to six, Hal's rider will give him his cue and the colt will rebreak as if he is just joining the race. It almost seems as though Hal possesses a quarter horse's speed at times like this. He cuts impossible gaps to pieces in the matter of jaw-dropping moments and by the time the field reaches mid-stretch, Hal has their full measure. Not one to win going away, Halcyon has timed his move just right to get his nose on the wire first. If the sight of the fun-size colt posing in the winner's circle isn't enough to make a human smile, they'll never appreciate any horse.
